Freelancing is no longer a side hustle; it is a planned and strategic career move that requires constant learning and adaptability to cope within the hyper-digital world. The possibilities are exploding within the gig economy with an altered divergence from Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is resulting in a competitive evolution. The learning minds or the budding freelancers are facing a threat to whether AI is a friend or a foe. The possibilities of using this fine masterpiece of tech as a tool remain a mystery for them because they are never told about the methods of using AI for their own benefit.
Gig Economy Is Evolving
The challenges faced by the world during the pandemic and later the introduction of ChatGPT as an open-source tool have amplified the pace of the gig economy and introduced new horizons of possibilities. The typical 9-to-5 norms are being rejected as people are freeing themselves from dependability. This is questioning the disciplined norms of earning and altering the focus of people towards more meaningful contributions that are actually earning them recognition. At the same time, the organizations have started reducing their human resources and started investing in machines, which are less demanding compared to humans.
The question persists, so let’s frame it differently:
Are humans being replaced by machines, or are humans no longer interested in performing the redundant roles?
AI Is Not Replacing Anyone
The fear needs to be mitigated, and the tech itself needs to be embraced with an open mind. AI is not replacing humans; rather, it is facilitating them by taking away the redundant and laborious tasks from them and allowing them to focus on more specialized work. This specialized work is valuable and priceless! So, can this be treated as an opportunity to earn more? Yes, obviously, focus more on work that matters rather than staying busy with redundancy.
Should AI be treated as a competition? I don’t think so!
My message to all the budding freelancers out there: Partner with AI intelligently and become more productive. This will automatically open more venues for earning and benefit the economy at large.
Explore AI today and remember one thing:
AI is a tool only; so, tell it what to do, rather than ask it what you should do!
AI-Assisted Services
Freelancers are offering AI-assisted services with the consent of their clients, depending on the project requirements. Services like digital marketing, social media handling, and SEO keywords are all being done using AI. Prompt engineering is offered as a service and also used to operate AI-based tools like ChatGPT, Jasper, and Copy.ai. This gives polished results and gets more done in less time.
Digital Designing
Graphic designers are using tools like Canva AI and Midjourney to create stunning visuals. Video editors are using Descript to produce branded content at scale. Freelancers with basic design skills can deliver more only if they know the art of using AI for their own benefit.
Voiceovers, Transcriptions, and Localizations
Tools like ElevenLabs and Whisper are opening doors for voice artists and translators. AI-enhanced voiceovers, subtitling, and localization of content for global clients are areas that can be offered by the freelancers.
AI Training Tasks
Earn by helping train AI systems. Companies need human input for image annotation, sentiment tagging, and more. Platforms like Scale, Remotasks, and Appen pay for AI development.
AI Consulting for Small Businesses
Small businesses want to automate processes but don’t know where to start. Freelancers with basic AI knowledge can offer services like chatbot setup, AI-driven email flows, and automation planning.
