Emerging technologies – Changing the dynamics of technology in present and future
The future of technology has been redefined through the technological shift with smartphones, virtual assistants, regenerative medicines, etc.
The conceptual development of the majority of these technologies was developed and envisioned back in the ’90s. The progressive development of technology-enabled us to witness them from which some of the emerging technologies are the following:
1. Voice Assistants
Voice assistant is the perfect example of Artificial Intelligence. Siri, Alexa, and Amazon Echo are mere examples of intelligent software that are used to understand human language; perform assigned tasks and communicate with users effectively. It is based on learning the basic information and respond according to the context.
2. Crispr
CRISPR CAS-9 (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats), genome editing techniques used in treatment for genetic diseases. It uses Gene-splicing technology which is used to identify and remove transfigured fragments of DNA. After this process, Crispr replaces the transfigured fragments with its alternate fragments. Crispr has the capability to treat genetic diseases like Huntington’s and Cystic fibrosis and can also treat cancer.
3. Assistive Robots
Advanced robots are replacing manpower in factories, battlefields with drones and even in restaurants with robotic waiters. Robots are becoming intelligent and responsive like humans. Robots are used in many domains like Security, Assistive tasks and are even used to perform everyday activities like cooking and cleaning.
4. Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality
Virtual Reality is the creation of an object in the 3D virtual world, whereas augmented reality is to display virtual objects in the real world and the user can interact with them. Mixed Reality is the combination of these two technologies; using images, texts, numbers and even moving objects. These technologies are used for training in different fields, like flight simulations, Surgeries, military training, in petrochemical and nuclear industries for researches. It is also used by marketers for product promotions and in the gaming world.
5. Regenerative Medicine
Scientists are able to reproduce different organs and body parts. According to this technology, the doctors scrape off the cells from that body part and use it for reproduction. The artificially grown body part can then be implanted inside the patient. It also uses 3D printing technology to produce different body parts.
6. Autonomous Vehicles
The automobile industry is evolving in the new direction of autonomous vehicles. Semi-autonomous vehicles are already successful. An autonomous vehicle is equipped with different sensors, AI technology, cameras. The data collected from the sensors and cameras are transmitted to the AI software’s and software then takes the decision and drives the car.
7. Reusable Launch System
The reusable launch system is a space system that is used as the recovery launch space system. It is used to recover or reuse orbit systems. The astronomical research field has always suffered from the need for high cost and resources in developing sophisticated and powerful rockets that will be used for the transportation of heavy equipment in space.
8. Cryptocurrency
Cryptocurrency is the money of the future. It is predicted to replace the existing currency. Even though it is still controversial today but still single crypto-coin can worth up to a few thousand dollars. It is considered as digital money, which is managed by the Cryptography- an encryption technique. It needs trust and security.
9. Quantum Computing
Computers on the basic level understand the language of ON and OFF. But they have progressed and are now challenged to solve cognitive problems like humans. Quantum Computing is based on Quantum bit. Quantum bits are information carriers. These bits allow quantum computers to process complex datasets more effectively than normal computers due to this advantage, it can produce better machine learning and predictive models results.
10. Artificial Intelligence and Task Automation
The world is rapidly moving towards task automation. With the advancement of data science, algorithms and high processing speed, automation, and AI is now easier than ever. Organizations are using ERP systems with automated warehouses, manufacturing units, office automated systems instead of traditional Information Systems. Artificial Intelligence is changing the dynamics of business operations throughout the globe. AI is also used in the medical field to help doctors make diagnoses.
Some of the basic applications of AI are:
- Improve financial performance, able to predict the future risks, opportunities to deal with geopolitical factors, stock market analysis
- Automated Traffic control
- Assistance in the medical field. Help the diagnosis of disease.
- Self-learning Robots
- Maintenance of IT devices
- Weather and disaster prediction
- Social Media Marketing (displaying appropriate content according to the preferences of the users)
- Security by object detection, identification, and its tracking
- Prevention from cyber-attacks
