Common Fibs of Technology

Provoking customers to buy more – Useful technology devices that lie for satisfying their customer’s needs.

The main selling point of the technology-oriented products is that these devices are essential for making lives better for e.g. Smart Surveillance Systems

Technology is progressing at a rapid pace and innovating systems like smart speakers with spy recording capability, facial recognition systems, intelligent doorbells, etc. are practically the examples of invasion of privacy through technology.

Example

In a virtual online course, when a student signs up for a lecture and attends it through a platform it is not just the student viewing the teacher but also the teacher is able to view all the virtual students. A similar situation can be related to different webinars that are conducted. They are able to know everyone’s expressions and correlate with them as a two-way viewing process. The virtual systems used in these settings are smart enough to record changes in the viewer’s expressions. The major drawback is that people don’t like the feeling of being watched and recorded without their consent and this is a common scenario that poses the lie of tech companies that they tell their customers.

Tech Company’s make it look like that it is essential and without it, the demands of their customers cannot be addressed. Companies argue that, if they will not provide it to their customers, some other companies will provide them. They claim to just meet the Demand and Supply aspects associated with the technology. Some of the common lies are:

Natural Process of Improvement

Tech companies argue that these technologies are an improvement in the natural process of development. This argument tends to justify the negative impact of technology like the advancement in technology of weapons that have a positive and a negative impact at the same time.

All Innovations are Useful

Not every innovation is useful. Some of the innovations are dangerous, while some of the innovations are useless. These innovations are not natural. A common example of these innovations is Smart Hairbrush, Bluetooth enabled Toaster, etc.

Evolutions Work Parallel with Needs

Evolutions can’t be directed by needs nor can it be planned. Evolution is done accidentally not according to the market’s needs, customer’s demands or environment.

No Rules in Innovation

There are no definite rules regarding what companies can and can’t produce. It is an obvious rule for the production of lethal technologies like autonomous weapons.

Progress at All Cost

Many tech companies are persistent for progress as they consider progress as a constant run that every person has to take part in and should be taken seriously. It doesn’t matter what are the hindrances. For progress, it is important to know the history of the failure and learning from failure rather than the success stories. The most important aspect is to be focused on the future.

Organizations believe that in this modern era, there is no option to stand still. It will get you to the back foot in the industry competition. Customers are also eager to look forward to new products but they neglect the impact of these innovations on society.

Customer’s Needs

A strong marketing campaign makes people buy these technologies by making them believe that this specific product is their new needs and it is essential for them to buy this product. They also make customers eager about the new upcoming products. People think that using these technology apps makes their life easier but this is not always the case, these technologies including ubiquitous devices and E-commerce platforms makes people more dependent towards these technologies. When customer’s buy products it encourages companies to continue more. These tech companies are now so equipped that they know exactly what an individual is doing, feeling and planning to do next. This is done through different Artificial Intelligence tools and techniques that enable planning the strategies and products according to the needs and requirements. One of the common examples is the advertisements that are shared on social media.

With Great Power comes Great responsibility

Small and large corporate businesses use different social media and e-commerce platforms in their business operations. It is believed that people make decisions for themselves but in reality, these decisions are executed by people but decided by these tech companies. Using the customers and employees to decide what and how to make available the next products and services. These companies have been successful in creating the image of trustworthiness and their every action is driven by the needs and demands of their consumers. These tech companies claim it as being the natural evolution of technology. It is just a term misused by them to satisfy their customers and enforce them to consider all the products as their needs.
